I've swum across oceans of wine and have come to some conclusions. The first rule is this: A great bottle of wine doesn’t stand on its technical data. What we all care about is: Is it well made? Is it priced fairly?
I make wines to act as condiments, to encourage a wholistic approach to dining. In addition, I interact with my fans regularly during production because I believe in the power of consensus. Simple Math is about being in the right place at the right time, employing the Golden Rule, deconstructing hogwash. It’s about putting a complicated life into folders, streamlining business, poking status quo in the eye. It’s about breaking the wine country dog-n-pony talk down to one important thing - yum or yuck! I’d rather not bore either of us explaining the numbers and science. That’s hot air. If you need to know the technical info before tasting my wines, the mark has been missed. However, feel free to read the wine data - it can be interesting.
ABOUT SIMPLE MATH
Life moves us as we sculpt it. Synchronicity finds me today with my family in Sonoma County and knee-deep in wine. My family of 4 is a creative team, with backgrounds ranging from fine art, business, music, technology, publishing, healthcare and digital media. I began as an obsessed classical & jazz trombonist, playing with some greats (Woody Herman Orchestra, Air Force Jazz Band, etc.).
In the dirt, I was an organic farmer, guided by the Integrated Pest Management research developed at Cornell University. I left western New York with a BS in engineering and crawled westward, following the high-speed paper airplane my resume had become. Technology ensnared me - medical reference labs, satellite technology, complex audio systems (go see a baseball game at Coors Field in Denver and let me know if the sound system is the best in the league like they say it is.) I’ve worked for wine companies (for free and for pay) in the Alexander, Napa, Dry Creek and Silicon Valleys. I consult in several facets of the industry (startup, strategy, compliance, collecting, learning). I’ve built and modified some incredible wine collections. I’ve judged wine competitions, blogged, been on boards and in wine education societies.
I’m a director for Family Winemakers of California. Still a musician/producer, leveraging the Internet as a storefront and listening room. Working on two books. Occasionally sleeping.
The world seems ready for new and exciting wine stuff and it’s an honor to help friends get going as they help me in turn. Simple Math Cellars arose as the result of being in the right place at the right time; one client’s problem became a mutual opportunity, and here we are today - a growing wine company with a fine start and a bright future.
